Plantar plate injuries have gained recognition as a common cause of forefoot pain and instability. This review aims to comprehensively analyze the present landscape of treatment options available for addressing plantar plate injuries.

A comprehensive literature review was completed by the authors using Google Scholar, Pubmed, Cochrane Review, and Science Direct using a combination of phrases related to the title of this article that discussed various treatment modalities for plantar plate injuries. The review encompassed both non-surgical and surgical interventions, assessing their efficacy, outcomes, and potential complications.

Conservative approaches, such as rest, taping, orthotic devices, and physical therapy, have been employed to manage milder cases of plantar plate injuries. These methods aim to alleviate pain, correct biomechanical abnormalities, and facilitate tissue healing. However, the effectiveness of conservative measures is influenced by the severity of the injury and patient compliance.

Surgical interventions offer a range of techniques based on injury severity and patient factors. Plantar plate repair, reconstruction, and augmentation have emerged as effective strategies to restore stability and alleviate pain. Advancements in surgical techniques, including minimally invasive procedures and arthroscopic guidance, aim to improve outcomes while minimizing morbidity.

The reviewed literature emphasizes the importance of accurate diagnosis, classification, and staging of plantar plate injuries to guide appropriate treatment selection. Individualized patient assessment, including factors such as foot biomechanics, patient age, and activity level, are crucial in tailoring treatment approaches.

Complications associated with surgical interventions encompass stiffness, hardware irritation, and recurrent deformities. Thus, meticulous surgical planning, precise technique execution, and postoperative rehabilitation protocols are imperative to optimize outcomes.

In conclusion, the management of plantar plate injuries demands a nuanced understanding of the available treatment modalities. Tailored approaches, based on injury severity and patient characteristics, are pivotal in achieving successful outcomes. The treatment options are often patient specific, however anchors have shown to be superior.
