Abstract
The latest bariatric endoscopic techniques include transoral outlet reduction (TOR) and bariatric endoscopic gastric remodeling (BEGR). Weight loss and comorbidity resolution outcomes from bariatric endoscopy remain inferior to those of bariatric surgery. Additionally, some patients are either ineligible for or prefer not to undergo surgery. These factors have driven the development of adjunctive tools to enhance weight loss following bariatric endoscopy. Current tools include pharmacotherapy and technical modifications. This study reviews the effectiveness of such tools in enhancing weight loss after bariatric endoscopy. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted comparing BEGR with and without pharmacotherapy and TOR with and without a technical modification. The findings suggest that these adjunctive tools may improve weight loss outcomes, but given study limitations, definitive conclusions cannot be drawn.
