Abstract
Candidates (both American medical graduate and international medical graduate/foreign medical graduate [IMG/FMG]) have to go through many obstacles to finally match and start their residency. These obstacles can be of financial, legal (visa), cultural and lingual nature. These aspects particularly seem to impact IMGs/FMGs more because of different reasons. IMGs/FMGs need to plan their journey well in advance as early as preclinical years of their medical degrees so that they can start their journey in the fourth or final year of their medical school. There are also a lot of considerations for the IMGs/FMGs to understand to be successful with their ERAS applications and interviews to finally reach their goal of US residency. In this chapter, we provide up-to-date information to our readers to further strengthen their plans and make informed decisions about their future.
